Theresa Looyenga

Theresa “Tress” Looyenga, aged 91, of Jenison was called home to her Lord and Saviour on Thursday, Oct 14, 2021. Tress was born June 1, 1930 in Grand Rapids, MI. to the late Martin and Mary (Smit) Swart. Tress attended and graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High School in 1948 and married Ted Looyenga on June 10, 1949. Tress was a busy homemaker for many years caring for her nine children. As her children grew older Tress worked at Russ’s Restaurant on 28th St SE for 20 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Theodore “Ted” Looyenga in 2014. In addition to her husband and parents she was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Katie Brummel; grandson, Jared Looyenga; brothers and sisters-in-law, John and Angie Swart, Bill and Ruth Swart, Jim and Dorothy (Dot) Swart; sisters and brothers-in-law, Marion and Simon Ondersma and Betty and Stuart Bylsma; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Stuart and Marilyn Looyenga and sister-in-law, Louise Null; brother-in-law, Willard Krommendyk. She is survived by her children, Mary (Joe) Brummel, Patricia McCullough, Larry (Kathy) Looyenga, Robert (Kathy) Looyenga, Randall (Lindy) Looyenga, Nancy (Kenneth) Throop, Douglas (Melissa) Looyenga, Mark (Sara) Looyenga, Karen (Patrick) Witherell; 27 Grandchildren; 61 Great Grandchildren with two more to arrive soon; sister-in-law, Sophie Krommendyk and brother-in-law, Raymond Null; many nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held 12 Noon Tuesday, Oct. 19, 2021 at Southwest Protestant Reformed Church, 4875 Ivanrest SW Grandville, MI 49418. Burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Grand Rapids. The family will receive visitors Monday from 4 to 7 pm at Southwest Protestant Reformed Church, 4875 Ivanrest SW, Grandville, MI 49418. Memorial donations may be made to Adams Christian School, Hope Protestant Reformed School, Covenant Christian High School or Sunset Manor, 725 Baldwin Dr., Jenison, MI 49428 .
