Thelma Preston, age 82, of Newaygo (formerly of Coopersville), passed away Monday, May 6, 2013. Thelma and her husband, Jim, owned and operated the Amoco gas station in Coopersville from the 1950's until their retirement in 1985. One of Thelma's passions was genealogy. For over 40 years she has done family history research. She also enjoyed knitting and made afghans and Christmas stockings for everyone in the family. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Cheryl, and great granddaughter, Sydnee Alcook. Thelma is survived by her husband of 64 years, Jim; children Pam Preston and Rick Cram, Karen Lowery, Jim Preston and Patricia Cole; grandchildren Aimee (Steve) Ellison, Kellee Alcook, Kate Alcook, Matthew (Ellen) Alcook, Joshua (Lori) Lowery, Hailey Preston, Logan Preston, 11 great grandchildren and her special buddy and constant companion, the family dog, Charlie. In accordance with her wishes, cremation has taken place and a private family service will be held.
