Sam Hughes Ii

Sam Street Hughes II, passed away at the age of 88 on June 5, 2022. He was preceded in death by his granddaughter Piper, brother John Hughes, sister Tempa Richards and his parents Judge Sam and Irene Hughes. Sam graduated from Lansing Eastern High School, attended MSU, served in the U.S. Navy and retired from the State of Michigan in 1997. Sam enjoyed fishing many lakes in Michigan and Canada. He dearly loved his grandchildren. He loved nature, swimming, taking boat rides at sunset, cooking meats over a slow wood fire, driving the countryside with his wife looking for deer, cataloging the weather conditions, and shopping at every store to get the best deals on groceries no matter how much gas or time he spent. You could always hear his jazz music playing from the house or garage. Sam is survived by his wife Mary, married 53 years. Sam had 3 daughters:  Jennie (Lloyd) Kirkpatrick, Charlotte (Jim Gongwer) Hughes and Amy (Dr. Robert) Sprik. Sam had 10 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren:  Sarah, Susan, Samuel, Seth, Sadie, Sallie, Caroline, Bryce, Bronwyn, Peyton, Piper, Cannon, Kendric and Carter. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville, MI  49404. 616-837-8161. Visitation is at 10am and the service starts at 11am.
