Robert “Bob” Phillip Umlor, age 72 went to be with the Lord on March 1, 2019. A life-long resident of Conklin, MI, Bob was one of the most genuine people you would like to know. He enjoyed being a fruit farmer his entire life. He followed in the footsteps of his father and brothers farming apples, peaches, cherries, and asparagus at Umlor Orchards. He attended St Joseph School and graduated from West Catholic High School. He served his country in the National Guard for 6 years. He was a life-long member of St Joseph Church in Wright, MI and Knight at the Knights of Columbus.
Bob married a cute girl from Hastings, MI, Faith Ann Sherer. They were happily married for 47 years and built a loving home on the family farm that has been on the corner of Hickory and 14th Ave since 1845. They have 4 kids, Amy (Chuck), Mark (Sheri), Roger (Nicole), and Marijo (Jason). He adored all his 11 grandkids Olivia, Sophia, Megan, Max, Alex, Landon, Marshall, Sadie, Finn, Madi, and Jacob. Our Dad loved his family, including his parents, Walter and Rose, his 6 brothers and sisters, 6 brother- and sister-in-law’s, many cousins, nieces and nephews. He enjoyed talking to them and visiting with them, especially late at night.
The cabin on the Little Manistee River was one of our Dad’s favorite places to be. Dad had this amazing talent of knowing every two-track and back road in Lake County. He loved to fish, hunt deer and turkey, sit by the fire, snowmobile, hunt for mushrooms, and two-trackin’. Our Dad taught us kids his love he had for the river, how to fish, kayak, and swim. He also taught us the value of hard work and having fun. Dad loved to hang out with his friends. He enjoyed the chicken barbeques with his friends over the last 50 years. He looked forward to Friday nights at Phil’s place and hunting with the guys. Dad had his pilot’s license and enjoyed flying for a time. Our Dad could fix anything! He was an amazing mechanic and had a passion for working on his 4 antique John Deere tractors. He proudly showed them off every summer in the front yard.
We loved our Dad dearly. We were grateful when we were growing up that we could see him often throughout the day. He came home at break time from the storage, lunch, and dinner, and he was always available to talk to at nights in the shed when he was working on equipment. Our Dad was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, uncle, and friend. We love you Dad and miss you!
