Grootenhuis, Robert William, age 82, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, February 21, 2021. His work here was done the last call made and the last car washed and waxed. Bob held many jobs working at Mulder Ford, Preston’s Service Station and assisting John VanDoorn with Johns Towing in Coopersville. Later in his career he worked as a truck driver for Furniture City Casket Co. and Mitco, Inc. in Grand Rapids and retired from Grand Haven where he worked at the Board of Light and Power. After his retirement he continued to stay busy working with Cal Laug doing home remodeling as well as working for the Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville where he worked part time since he was in High School and has been with the funeral home thru 4 generations. For hobbies he enjoyed washing and waxing his vehicles caring for his lawn and mowing the church yard at the Coopersville Christian Reformed Church as well as assisting his neighbors and lending anyone who asked a hand. He served on the Coopersville-Polkton Twp. Fire Dept. from 1957-1991 and held the position of Assistant Chief and was the Fire Chief for 10 years retiring in 1991. Bob is survived by his wife of 59 years Karen (Busman) Grootenhuis; daughters, Tammy (Dale) Huff and Debbie (Rick) Miller; grandchildren, Katelynn (Mike) Grossenbacher, Kristina (Kyle) Bursley, Casie (Ben) Emmons, Rob (Chelsea) Miller, Heidi Miller and friend Andy Adams; great grandchildren, Alayna, Lilith, Zander, Maddox, Saige, Reese, Jolene and Maisy; brothers, John (Barb) Grootenhuis and Paul (Eileen) VandeKoppel; sister, Joycene Wolffis; brothers-in-law Ken (Marlene) Busman and Wes (Bonnie) Busman; many nieces and nephews as well as his good friend Jerry Bos. Bob was preceded in death by his parents Arthur Grootenhuis, Anne (Smith) Grootenhuis-VandeKoppel, sister Elizabeth Grootenhuis, stepfather Joe VandeKoppel, brother-in-law Harold Wolffis and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Donna and Harv Bennink. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, Feb. 26, 2021 at the Coopersville Christian Reformed Church, 200 Henry St, Coopersville 49404 with Rev. Lloyd Hemstreet officiating. Burial will take place at the Coopersville-Polkton Twp. Cemetery. Visitation 2-4 and 6-8 Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021 at the Coopersville Christian Reformed Church.
