De Geus - Mr Robert é�a�A"Bobé�a�� De Geus, aged 86 of Coopersville, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Sept 7, 2011, at his home under the watchful eye of Hospice of Michigan. Bob was born in Eaton Rapids, MI., Sept 16, 1924. He graduated from Eaton Rapids High School in the class of 1942 and spent three years in the U.S. Naval Service during WW II, one of those years attached to the Fifth Marine Division, FMF. He survived the Battle of Iwo Jima and after wounds healed he was returned to the Navy until mustered out after the end of the War. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Ethel (Hulce) De Geus and his only sister, Muriel Gilliland. He is surivived by his wife of 63 years, Patricia (Webb) and sister-in-law Colleen Webb of Eaton Rapids, MI.; children, Peggy (John) Elefteriades of Guilford, CT., Robert II (Reenie) of East Calais, Vt., Timothy of Coopersville, MI., and Kerry (Jeff) Kragt of Marne, MI.; 11 wonderful grandchildren, Christina (Mike) Haines and Andrew Elefteriades of CT., Noelle, Grace, Martin and Lena De Geus of VT., Erin De Geus of Grand Rapids and Army Sgt. Patrick De Geus of Coopersville, and Jenny, Joel (Krystin), and Justin Kragt of Grand Rapids; three wonderful great grandchildren, Gage, Reed and Jaidyn. Bob is an MSU alumnus, class of 1950 and taught in the Coopersville Area Public Schools for Thirty years and spent most of his retirement years as a watercolorist, pedaling his paintings at Michigan Art Fairs and enjoying success at International Miniature Shows. The small town and surrounding Coopersville, MI. area has been a wonderful place to raise our family. The churches, schools, merchants, professionals, government officials and citizens have made Bob proud to call this place home. Funeral Services will be held Sunday 3:00 pm at the Marne United Methodist Church. Burial in Coopersville Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday one hour prior to the funeral service at Church.
