Richard Heynen

Richard Bernard Heynen, age 83, of Coopersville, passed away on Saturday, October 13, 2018. He was preceded in death by his parents Adriance and Regnera (Huizenga) Heynen, brother Alfred, brother and sister-in-law Charles and Margaret, stepson Gary Meringa Sr. and sister-in-law Donna Landman. Richard is survived by Nina his wife of 53 years; son, Eric; grandson, Gary Meringa, Jr.; great grandchildren, Lucas and Lily; brother, James (Jacqueline); sister-in-law Marian (Stan) Szudera and several nieces, nephews and cousins. He was a graduate of Catholic Central High School class of 1953 and the University of Michigan class of 1958 where he played football from 1955 to 1957. He was a teacher at Union High School for 30 years where he also coached football and boys and girls track. After retiring he spent many years managing the greenhouse at the Grand Rapids Home for Veterans. The family extends a thank you to the staff of Kindred Hospice for their care and support.
