Mr Raymond Charles Whiteman, aged 85, of Coopersville, passed away Thursday, June 28, 2012. Ray was born June 17, 1927 in Muskegon to Harold and Frances (Mundt) Whiteman who preceded him in death. Upon graduation form High School Ray joined the US Air Force and served during WW II, Korea and Vietnam retiring after 20 years of service. After his retirement he returned home to MI found work in Grand Rapids and purchased a home in Coopersville. Ray was very active and served on many military and community organizations. He was a member of the Air Force Sergeants Assoc. Chapter 772 for 37 years, VFW Post 5598 in Coopersville for 31 years, was a past board member of the Veterans Trust Fund, served the Disabled American Veterans District 14, was on the Coopersville City council and served as Mayor pro tem for the City of Coopersville. He was also preceded in death by his brothers Harold, Jim and Jack Whiteman. Ray is survived by his wife of 46 years, Amy; daughter, Elaine (Leonard) Petznik; grandchildren, Tristan (Richard) Versluis, Nicholas Petznik and Erin Kruithoff and Rachel (Troy) Copiski; great grandchildren, Clayton, Alyssa, Johanna, Bryce, Aiden, Colton, Richie and Troy Jr; brother Robert (Arlene) Whiteman, sister Barbara Snyder and many relatives and friends. In keeping with Rays wish cremation has taken place. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday 11:00 am at the Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville, Rev Tim Taylor officiating. Interment will be in Coopersville Cemetery. Relatives and Friends may meet the family Monday from 6 to 9 pm at the Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville.
