Peter R. Schaaphok, age 89, of Lamont, passed away peacefully at Butterworth Hospital, surrounded by his loving family, and went to live with his Lord on Saturday, August 22, 2015. He was born on March 4, 1926, to John and Elizabeth Schaaphok and was an only child. He was reunited in heaven with his parents, son Douglas, and beloved wife Margaret (Metten). Peter was a proud U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. He enjoyed farming in his youth, and worked for decades as a local builder, carpenter, and handyman. His smile, laugh, sense of humor and that ever-present twinkle in his baby blue eyes will be sorely missed. Peter will be remembered by his children Kristie (James) VanHuis and Dale Schaaphok, as well as twin grandchildren Katie and Joshua VanHuis. He will be greatly missed by sister-in-law Ruth Moe-McNitt and Joyce Metten, and also by many nieces and nephews, friends, and neighbors. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 26, from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 27, at 11a.m. at the Coopersville Reformed Church, 423 W. Randall St, Coopersville, with pastor Arnold VanBeek officiating.
