Paul Smoes, age 80, of Coopersville, was called home to his Lord on Saturday August 29, 2015. He was born in Coopersville, MI. to the late John and Ruth (Kammeraad) Smoes. Paul was preceded in death by his wife Nancy Smoes on April 11, 2014. He served in the U.S. Navy, worked on the chain crew for 35 plus years at the Grand Valley State University football games and drove truck retiring from Herman Miller after many years of service. He enjoyed spending time with his family camping and sharing his love of the outdoors with his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by his 4 children, Gary (Jean) Smoes, Kevin (Sue) Smoes, Kirk (LeAnn) Smoes and Vicki (Scott) Wenger; 9 grandchildren, Justin (Mary Kate) Smoes, Jon Smoes, Sara (Nick) Flanders, Jaime Smoes, Katie (Anthony) Sheftic, Laura (Chris) Caulk, Kirk Smoes Jr., Josh (Lindsey) Wenger and Nick Wenger; great grandchildren, Alaina and Camden; sisters-in-law, Sharon Smoes, Twyla Smoes and Judy Hynes; brothers-in-law Rich (Barb) Bruce, Ken (Barb) Bruce and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Thursday, Sept. 3rd at Coopersville Reformed Church with Rev. Arnold VanBeek officiating. Burial will take place in Lake Forest Cemetery in Grand Haven, MI. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville.
