It is with great sadness that the family of Nina (Harkins) Heynen announce her passing on Wednesday, May 13, 2020, at the age of 93 years. Nina will be lovingly remembered by her son Eric, her sister Marian (Stan) Szudera, her grandson Gary Meringa II and his children Lucas and Lily.
Nina also sends her love and blessings, and will be deeply missed, by Gary’s mother, Sandra, and his stepfather, Edward McLaughlin, Molly and Adam Czarnopys, and their boys, Benjamin and Alex. The entire Heynen family, along with Lynn and Rick Croel, Fawn and September, Fawn and Jack Wienand, Bruce and Shelby (Szudera) Wienand, Butch, Mike, Todd, Shawn, Kelly Landman and families. The Stolarz and Merlin Steffes families and a special friend, Lanny Barendse.
Nina is preceded in death by her husband, Richard, her son Gary Meringa, her parents Glen and Alice Harkins, and her sister Donna (Harkins) Landman. Nina would also like remembered, Irene Zylstra, her friend of 80+ years. She looks forward to seeing these people again at Heaven’s gate.
Nina’s son Gary, was killed in Vietnam in 1968 and Nina is looking forward to standing beside him in glory while he is playing his guitar.
Nina was raised on her parent’s farm in Standale. She and her sister Marian were partners in the Standale Beauty Pacemaker Salon. Nina lived at her home, that she helped plan, on a farm near Coopersville. One of her happiest moments was when she earned her private pilot’s license and was able to join in the
women’s pilot events.
Nina was an extraordinary woman with many talents. If you knew Nina, you would know how sweet she was and that she had a heart full of love and kindness for everyone. An incredible woman that will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Per Nina’s wishes, private graveside service was held with burial at Rosedale Memorial Park.
