Nelvie Ruth (Meerman) Anderson

Nelvie R (Meerman) Anderson, age 86 of Ravenna, MI., formerly of Peoria, IL., went to be with our Lord on Wednesday, May 17, 2023.  She is survived by her husband, Arlynn “Andy” Anderson of Ravenna, MI; 1 son, Wesley (Sue) Anderson; 2 daughters, Rochelle (Lance) Evert and Tonja (Rev. Bradley) Veenendaal; 7 grandchildren, Rachael, Lauren, Amanda, Jocelyn, Stephanie, Brendan and Jared; 3 sisters, Mary VanSweden, Celia Meerman and Joy Hulst; 1 brother, Wayne Meerman and many nieces and nephews.  Nelvie was born in Coopersville, MI., to the late John and Jeanette (Gunneman) Meerman and was a graduate of Coopersville High School and the University of Michigan where she earned her bachelor’s degree in Education. She was an active member of the Society of Engineer’s Wives (of Caterpillar Inc., Peoria, IL), Gideon’s International, and Reformed Church Women.  She served as a Church Women United (Peoria, IL) representative at the local, state, regional, and national level, a Channel 47 (PBS) Auction Coordinator, March of Dimes volunteer and board member, a Friendship House Liaison, a Deacon, a Sunday School and Vacation Bible School Teacher and a Music Director. She was on the Campaign for Better Health Care, Health Care task force, Family Violence Coordinating Council, Inter Faith Alliance, Peoria Women’s Civic Federation, Planned Parenthood and the Peoria Historical Society. She was volunteer of the year in 1970 for March of Dimes and 1992 for Channel 47 as well as the recipient of the Valiant Woman of the Year award for Church Women United in 2002. Visitation will be held from 4 – 7 P.M. on Monday May 22, 2023, at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville, MI. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, May 23, 2023 at the Coopersville Reformed Church, 423 W. Randall St, Coopersville, MI with Pastor Steve Vanderwoude officiating. Burial will be in the Ravenna Twp.
