With deepest sorrow, we announce that Nathan Brian Syrek, age 19, our beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin and friend went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 16, 2019 after a courageous and hard fought battle with cancer. He was a 2018 Coopersville High School graduate and current student at Grand Rapids Community College.
Nathan will be painfully missed every day by his parents Tim and Angie Syrek, his brothers Brandon and Owen, his grandparents Larry and Marj Williams, Judy Syrek, Dave and Diane Syrek and Great-Grandmother Esther Finkler. His aunts and uncles Deb and Uli Duffner, Chad and Kassia Williams, Mike and Denise Alderink and Jackie Syrek. His cousins Noah, Ella, Klara, Maksim, Chris and Lindsey, Ryan, Stacey and Savannah. His best friends Wyatt VanDyke and Taylor Swifink, family friend Connor Helsen and a basement full of close friends who have become like family.
Nathan had a beautiful spirit like no other and a huge love for life. He loved Jesus, his Jeep, Silver Lake, and their late night two track adventures followed by ‘half off apps’. He had a passion for nature, golfing, camping, animals, 4-H and lived by the quote “I wish there was a way to know you are in the good ole days before you have actually left them.” -Andy Bernard.
Despite life’s challenges, Nathan’s motto was ‘Life is good’ and he wore those shirts proudly! Nathan never complained one time, always had an optimistic and adventurous look on life and always gave the best advice. Nathan had a beautiful relationship with Jesus Christ and a rock solid faith. We have peace knowing he is living life to the fullest with Jesus Christ in his eternal home.
Nathan brought the color into our lives and his curiosity about life was insatiable. Nineteen years with Nathan was not enough time, but in those short years he taught us all so much about life and what really matters! He is missed beyond what words can express.
Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 23 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, 17150 88th Ave, Coopersville, MI 49404 with Fr. Ayub Nasar and Fr. Daniel Schumaker as Celebrants. Visitations will be Monday, April 22 from 2:00-4:00 p.m with the Rosary starting at 2:00 p.m and again from 5:30 – 8:30 p.m. at St. Michael’s Church Hall. Everyone is invited to stay, as friends and family will share stories about Nathan’s amazing life starting at 8:30 p.m.
Nathan loved learning and couldn’t wait to go to Ferris State University and major in Product Design Engineering. If you would like to do something in remembrance of his short but beautiful life, Nathan would have been honored to know that donations to his brother’s college education fund had been made in lieu of flowers. Envelopes will be available at visitation and at the funeral. A guestbook may be signed at www.throopfh.com
