Nancy May Torno

Nancy May (Kennedy) Torno, age 88, of Allendale was called home to her Lord Sunday, January 28, 2024.

Nancy is survived by her husband Alvis “Al” Torno; children Susan (Pete) Zwyghuizen, Gary (Dianne) Torno and Keith Torno, grandchildren, Derek, Stacy, Nakisha, Rebecca, Ron, Amanda, McKinley, Lincoln, Ty, Velislav and Quynh Pavlov; great grandchildren, Zachary, Natalie, Cruz, Taryn, Lainey, Ezra, Maverick, Kamille, Eden, Owen and Aidan; brother, Bill (Donna) Kennedy; sister-in-laws, Dorothy Bender and Geri Torno; many nieces and nephews.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents, William and Alma (Otterbein) Kennedy and her sister and brother-in-law, Tom and Patricia Holmes.  

Nancy was born and raised on the family farm along the banks of the Grand River. She was a member of Spring Valley Church in Allendale. Nancy attended a one room school for several years, graduated from Coopersville High School and attended Michigan State University and Grand Valley State College where she graduated with her teaching credentials. She began her teaching career as a one room school teacher where she taught for 1 year and then moved to the Allendale Public Schools and taught for 25 years until her retirement. Nancy loved her teaching career and all her “Kids” that she taught throughout her career. After retirement she and Al spent over 20 winters at South Padre Island, TX enjoying the warm climate and friendships they formed there. They also enjoyed traveling and took many trips abroad.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Friday, Feb. 2, 2024 at Spring Valley Church, 5947 Lake Michigan Dr. Allendale MI with Rev Rob Wondergem officiating. Burial will take place in Allendale Twp. Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Spring Valley Church in Allendale from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. on Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024 and Friday one hour prior to the service at church.
