Mary Helen Beaber (Lum), age 96, was born in Portland, IN to Isaiah and Goldie Jordan. After the death of her mother she was raised by her Aunt Effie and Uncle Oscar in Lansing MI. Mary was married to Lawrence ( Doc ) Rothwell and later she married the love of her life Glen (Ponch) Beaber. While they were still newly weds they took in her 3 nephews after the death of their mother. That began her life of raising other people's kids. There were many, some for a little while, others a lifetime. They lived in Marne on a small farm where animals and birds flourished. She was president of the bird club, owned a pet shop, stopped working to raise children and later went back to work first at the Marne nursing homes, then the local laundromat and retired from the Laundry on Alpine just south of 3 Mile Rd. She devoted her life to helping people and would give without thought of her own needs. She. found the good in people. Glen preceded her in death in 1974. A Life Celebration Service will be held 2 pm Sunday, March 17th at White Cloud United Methodist Church 1125 E. Newell St. White Cloud, MI.
