Mary Ann (Farrell) Meerman of Coopersville, passed away peacefully on August 18, 2024, at the age of 88. Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Earl; daughter Janet; son Jim; parents Thomas and Luella Farrell; brothers Carroll, Arvon and Tom; and sister Gertrude. Mary Ann was born in Marne, Michigan on July 25, 1936. Mary Ann attended Coopersville Public Schools where she met the love of her life. Following high school Mary Ann attended Mercy Central School of Nursing where she became a Registered Nurse. Mary Ann married her high school sweetheart in 1958 at St Mary’s Catholic Church, Marne, Michigan. Together, she and Earl raised six kids in Coopersville, Michigan. Not only was Mary Ann a loving mother and wife, but she was also a caretaker for many. Mary Ann had the compassion and love to put all others above herself. Mary Ann’s early years were spent raising her children and working at Coopersville Elementary Schools, and later transitioning to Kent Community Hospital where she worked as a nurse until she retired in 1992. Following her retirement, Mary Ann and Earl loved to travel across the country in their motor home. Her kids will most remember her as a nurse, faithful daughter of Jesus, nurturer, giver, hard worker, and selfless human being. Mary Ann was known for her good cooking and baking, particularly her cinnamon rolls, cookies and macaroni & cheese. Mary Ann loved her family most and enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandchildren. She loved to have cookie parties, make gingerbread houses for her family to decorate, attend sporting events for her kids and grandchildren, and prepare big Sunday dinners for her family and their friends. Mary Ann’s hobbies included sewing, quilting, bowling, golfing, and camping. She also enjoyed fishing whenever she got the chance. She also volunteered at St Mary’s Church, God’s Kitchen and Coopersville Cares. Mary Ann is survived by her children who will miss her dearly: Joe (Julie) Meerman, Diane Meerman, Jon (Sharon) Meerman, Julia (Ben) Christie, Jill Meerman, and Jayne (Kevin) Schoenborn, 29 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren, her sister Margaret Bear, her sister-in-law Jeri Farrell, several nieces and nephews, and several friends at FountainView Assisted Living. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St. Coopersville, MI from 4 to 7pm with the rosary at 7pm. The funeral service will be held at 11am on Thursday, August 22, 2024, at St Mary’s Catholic Church, 15164 Juniper Dr, Marne, MI 49435, with visitation one hour prior and burial service immediately following at St Mary’s cemetery. A luncheon will be provided following the burial service at St Mary’s Hall. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Lori’s Voice, P.O. Box 66, Coopersville, MI 49404. Mary Ann’s family wishes to thank the workers at FountainView Assisted Living for their loving care of their Mom and Dad.
