Marilyn “Sue” Elsie (Hager) Murray, aged 84, formerly of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away April 3, 2024, in Holland, MI. Sue was born in Muskegon in 1939 to Robert and Marion Hager. The family moved to Grand Rapids’ north side in 1946, where they attended Blessed Sacrament Parish. While working at Grand Rapids Osteopathic Hospital, Sue met Thomas V. Murray, DO. They married in August 1966 and raised two sons, Joe and Chuck. Sue and Tom made their home in Grand Rapids where Sue proved a loving, generous mother and grandmother. A long-time member of St. Stephen Parish, in 2009, Sue, now widowed, moved to Freedom Village of Holland to be closer to her children and grandchildren and joined St. Francis de Sales Parish. In addition to her family, friendships were central to Sue’s life and each was special. Her many lasting friends came from her involvement with St. Stephen Catholic School, the Morning Glories bowling league, and her time as a nurse. She always had time for a cup of coffee, a telephone call, or to write a card. Sue loved sewing and often created stuffed animals, much of the family’s clothing, PJs, and costumes for school projects, Halloween, and later Tulip Time. She is preceded in death by her husband Thomas V. Murray, DO, parents Robert and Marion Hager, a stillborn son, brother Edward, grandson Logan Allbaugh, and foster daughter Carolyn Keshick Toornman. Sue is survived by Joe (Stephanie) Murray, their children Elena Murray, Elijah Allbaugh, Emily Allbaugh, and Chuck (Lora Lee) Murray and their sons Kyle and David Murray. She is also survived by her beloved cousin Nancy Brown, of Syracuse, NY, sisters-in-law Mary Moser (Bruno) of West Lafayette, IN, Karen (Gary) Klein, and Sandy (David) Snyder of Grand Rapids, as well as many beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews. A visitation will be April 15th from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville, MI, and second visitation April 16th at 10:00 am at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Holland followed by a Mass of Christian Burial, officiated by Fr. Bill Vander Werff at 11:00 am. A private interment next to her husband Tom at Coopersville Cemetery will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Sue’s honor may be sent to the Dominican Sisters of Grand Rapids, Corpus Christi Catholic School (Holland, Michigan), Lillian Easton Murray Library Fund of the Coopersville Library, or Hospice of Holland. Condolences for the family may be left on Marilyn’s guestbook at www.throopfh.com.
