Mabel E. Hecksel, age 102, was called home to her Lord with family at her side Monday, December 24, 2018, just shy of her 103rd birthday. Mabel was born in Polkton Twp. to the late John and Izetta (Doane) Otterbein on December 26, 1915 and was a lifelong resident of Polkton Twp. and graduate of Coopersville High School class of 1934. Mabel was a member of St Luke Lutheran Church in Nunica of which the Hecksel family were charter members. Mabel loved to spend time with her family and friends and was involved in community service thru her church, working on the election board in Polkton Twp. and assisting with the school census. She also enjoyed staying active, traveling, playing euchre, tending her flowers and gardens, canning and cooking, doing crossword puzzles and at age 75 took up golf and bowling. Mabel was preceded in death by her husband Oscar in 1996, daughter-in-law Janet Hecksel, grandson Scott McNitt, 6 sisters and 5 brothers. She is survived by her children, Wayne Hecksel, Karen (Keith) Visscher, Marilyn (Gale) McNitt and Dale (Toni) Hecksel; 13 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 4 great great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Elsie Otterbein, Donna Otterbein and Thelma Hecksel; many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 am Friday, December 28, 2018 at St Luke Lutheran Church, 11261 South St, Nunica, with Rev Dennis Lassanske officiating. Burial will take place in the Coopersville-Polkton Twp. Cemetery. Relatives and friends may greet the family Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville. Memorial donations may be made to St Luke Lutheran Church, P.O. Box 97, Nunica, MI 49448.
