Lois Grotenrath

November 24, 1934 — April 1, 2021

Lois Grotenrath (Kiaunis) (Franck), age 86 of Cedar Springs formerly of Marne, passed away Thursday, April 1, 2021. She was born in Big Rapids, MI to the late Otto and Flossie (Carlton) Franck. Lois was a graduate of Big Rapids High School and the Butterworth School of Nursing where she earned her RN Degree. She worked at Ferguson and Kent Community Hospitals in Grand Rapids. Lois loved her God, her family and was a devoted Tigers Fan. She passed away on the Tigers opening day. She was devoted to her family and friends and always had a kind word for everyone she met. In addition to her parents Lois was preceded in death by her first husband Norbert Kiaunis and her sisters, Marianna Waldron, Marge Meador and Joanne Waldron. She is survived by her husband, John “Jack” Grotenrath; children, Michael (Cindy) Kiaunis, Daniel Kiaunis and Micki, Mary (Brent) Bradford and William (Michelle) Kiaunis; 9 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren with another to arrive soon; stepchildren, Doug (Judy) Grotenrath, Don (Deb) Grotenrath, Cindy Takus, John (Frieda) Grotenrath and Jim Grotenrath and Ally; many step grandchildren and great grandchildren; brother, Jim Franck; sister, Sally Gibson; many nieces and nephews. There will be a Private Family Service with Interment at St Mary’s Catholic Cemetery next to her husband Norbert Kiaunis. A Life Celebration Gathering open house will be held in the summer to celebrate Lois’s life with family and friends. Memorial donations may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice, 100 Michigan St NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 or Caribbean Children’s Foundation, P.O. Box 33, Jenison, MI 49429.
