Leonard Albert Vander Jagt Jr., aged 94 was received by his Lord and Savior on the morning of Saturday April 26, 2025. He was born to the late Leonard and Nellie (Eversdyke) Vander Jagt. He grew up on the family farm as one of 13 children. There he learned how to work hard, get by with little, and to cherish family.
Leonard was a brick layer by trade. He and his brother, Howard, owned and operated Vander Jagt Brothers Construction for decades. Len found great satisfaction in the many buildings that his crew completed in the West Michigan area. Highlights include the Gerber baby food factory in Zeeland, the library at Western Seminary, and the clock tower at GVSU.
In his early twenties, Leonard became a committed Christian. His faith was very important to him, and he strove to share it with many others. He was often on the evangelism team at Remembrance Church, served in the prison ministry, and supported many missionaries. He also used his professional skills to assist in building churches locally as well in other countries.
Leonard was preceded in death by his 1st wife, Esther, and his infant son, Lonnie; brothers, Floyd (Phyliss) Vander Jagt, and Howard Vander Jagt; sisters, Florence (Bert) Camfferman, Cora (Ron) Scherencel, Lorraine (Ray) Bolthuis, and Betty (Jim) Baker.
Leonard is survived by his wife, Velma; children, Judy (Bill) Kuiper, Ken (Cindy) Vander Jagt, and Shelly (Scott) Stegenga; stepdaughters, Melany (Chris) Isbell and Sherry (Jr) Picket; 15 grandchildren and their spouses; 27 great grandchildren and 3 additional great grandchildren to arrive soon; brothers, Donald (Lorraine) Vander Jagt, Kenneth (Grace) Vander Jagt, and Rodger (Cheryl) Vander Jagt; sisters, Ellen Rozema, Marion Alderink, and Nancy Torgerson; sister-in-law, Karen Vander Jagt; many nieces and nephews.
