Laverne Umlor

LaVerne (Vern) Wilfred, Umlor, age 82 of Coopersville, passed away Friday, January 8, 2021. He passed away after a 16 year battle with Parkinsons. Vern was born in Conklin to the late Wilfred and Helen (Schoenborn) Umlor. He attended St. Joseph’s School in Wright, was a member of the Michigan National Guard and was a lifelong area Farmer. Vern was active at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church. He was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus Council 4404. He was also active in the Ottawa County Farm Bureau. Vern was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather and enjoyed being with his family. He liked to play Euchre, dancing and traveling. Vern is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Joan (Struik) Umlor; children, Edward (Kim) Umlor, Bonita (Glenn) Pawloski, William Umlor and Amanda Boersma; grandchildren, Brian (Michelle) Umlor, Kristina ( Ben) Pierce, Michael (Lynae) Umlor, Theresa (Cody) Gardner, Nickolas Umlor, Megan Pawloski, Travis Pawloski, Andrew  (Kelsey) Umlor, Joshua (Catherine) Umlor, Adam Boersma and Matthew Boersma; step grandchildren, Nickolas Moon and Caleb Moon; seven great grandchildren and six step great grandchildren; siblings, Laurissa Zimmer, Alvina Hockey, Ethel Nutt, Bernice (Clyde) Johnson and Agnes (Leon) Schwartz; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Vern was also preceded in death by his sister Bertha Meier, father-in-law and mother-in-law Cornelius (Cornie) Struik and Dorothy (Hoefling) Struik, brothers-in-law Donald Zimmer, Paul Meier, Gilford Hockey, Gail Nutt. Cremation has taken place. The Funeral Mass will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wright, with interment in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Wright. The family wishes to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Mission Point of Lamont for the care they gave Vern. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Divine Providence Academy at St. Joseph Church, 18784 8th Ave., Conklin, MI 49403.
