LaVerne L. Stroven, age 86, of Coopersville was called home to heaven Saturday morning April 25, 2015. He was born to John and Minnie (Lemmen) Stroven on the family farm in Tallmadge Twp. only 300 yards from his current home and was a lifelong member of Lamont Christian Reformed Church. LaVerne worked on the family farm with his Dad for several years, was employed as a mechanic at Lemmen Pontiac in Coopersville and retired from Grand Valley State University after 20 plus years of service working in their motor pool as a mechanic. After his retirement LaVerne enjoyed spending time with his family especially his grandsons and new great grandson, wintering in Florida, traveling on bus trips through the U.S from Maine to California and in Europe. He enjoyed gardening, and kept busy in his workshop repairing cars and tractors for many of his friends and neighbors. LaVerne is survived by his wife of 63 years Shirley; son, Gary and Eneka Stroven; daughters Janet Stroven, Pamela Stroven and Julie Stroven; grandsons Jonathan Stroven and Nathan and Amber Stroven; great grandson Parker Stroven; sister Arloa and John DeGraaf and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 29, 2015 at Lamont Christian Reformed Church with Rev Ron Meyer officiating. Burial will be in Maplewood Cemetery at Lamont. Relatives and friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at Church. Memorial donations may be made to Lamont Christian School.
