Judith Kay " Judy" (Looman) Ryan

Judith Kay “Judy” (Looman) Ryan, age 78, of Grand Rapids, passed away Sunday, December 15, 2024 surrounded by her family. The world lost an amazing, compassionate, strong, and fun-loving woman. Judy was born in Grand Rapids, MI on September 14, 1946 to the late Harold and Etta (DeYoung) Looman. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Jim Ryan in 2023, daughter Kimmy Ryan, and sister Sandy, with whom she was especially close.

Judy was a people person and had many dear friends. She was also always telling her children about the new friends she made. She loved time spent with her grandchildren and family, always knew about their lives, and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone. She and Jim enjoyed wintering in Florida. She adored watching and feeding birds and was specifically fond of bluebirds. She loved animals and had a life filled with many pets she held dear, especially her kitties. She was known as “Granny Bug” because of her love of VW bug cars. 

Judy will be deeply missed and dearly remembered by her family and friends. Her children, Jeff (Donna) Ryan, Carri Ryan (Matt Pozsik) and Tina (Chase) Ryan; 8 grandchildren, Erin, Emma, Nathan, Ainsley, Easton, Cade, Jax and Tristan; many nieces and nephews.

The family invites everyone to join them for a Celebration of Life Service on Friday, December 20 at 1:30pm at Frederik Meijer Gardens on 1000 East Beltline Ave. Grand Rapids, MI. Upon arrival, follow the directional signage. At the conclusion of the service there will be refreshments and time to share stories. Admission to Meijer Gardens is free to Judy’s friends and family who attend.
