Josephine (Jo) Kaye Kelly of Conklin. Jo went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, Feb 24, 2013 in Grand Rapids MI. Born May 30, 1944 in Grand Rapids, MI to Evert and Dorothy Peterson, she married Raymond Luke Kelly in Conklin, MI on July 19, 1969. She is survived by her beloved husband, Raymond; her mother, Dorothy Peterson Schaefer; son William Kelly Sr.; grandsons William Kelly Jr. and Ryan Kelly; in-laws Norrell Kelly, Edward and Marian Kelly; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Kit and Marianne Morlan, Charlie and Dorie Creager, Calvin and Dolly Hober, Ken and Margaret Benefiel, Tom and Karen Goodno, Al and Carol Rosel and Suzette Wiltenburg. She was preceded in death her father, Evert Peterson, her step-father, Herbert Schaefer, son, Kenneth Kelly and sister-in-laws, Beverly Kelly and Janice Hoogstraat. Jo graduated in 1962 from Ravenna High school, in 1967 from Grand Valley State University and in 1992 from Western Michigan University. She served as the Executive Director of Central Volunteers/Voluntary Action Center; Project Coordinator with the AAAWM; Program Coordinator with Aquinas College, Psychiatric Social Worker with Kent Oaks Psychiatric Hospital; Continued Care Planner with Saint Maryé�a�a��s Health Services; Geriatric Social Worker with Sanctuary at Saint Maryé�a�a��s; Alzheimeré�a�a��s Living Center Coordinator at Birchwood Care Center; Alzheimeré�a�a��s Unit Directory of the Good Shepherd Home at Resthaven Care Center. She also served for 12 years as Chester Township Trustee and for 8 years as Supervisor. She has served on many community boards and committees; Volunteer Management Association of Western Michigan; Ottawa County Canteen Services; Lay Board of the Catholic Information Center; Ottawa County Community Mental Health; Council on Aging of Kent County; Northeast Ottawa Council on Aging, Northwest Ambulance Service; Ottawa County Community Action Agency; Conklin/Chester Township Memorial Day Committee; Conklin Historical Preservation Society and the Sophie de Marsac Campau Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. She researched, designed and administered the Chester Township History and Genealogy website and wrote the book é�a�A"Chester Township Historyé�a��. Jo was an exceptional leader, a good listener, and a true friend to many. She will be sadly missed by her family and friends and by everyone who knew her. In keeping with her wish cremation has taken place with interment in McNitt Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday, March 2nd, from 12 noon to 2 pm at Chester Twp.
