John Groenink, age 97, of Coopersville, went to his eternal home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Friday, April 5, 2013. John was preceded in death by his wife Christina of 55 years and two grandchildren. He is survived by his six sons, Andy (Shirley), Luke (Sheryl), Bernie (Pat), Rolly (Carol), John (Kathy), and Jay (Kristie); 18 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; a sister in the Netherlands and a number of sister-in-laws, brother-in-laws, nieces and nephews in the Netherlands and Alberta, Canada. John was born in Bovensmilde, Drenthe, Netherlands into a family of seven children. He came to America in 1947 and was followed by his wife and three sons nine months later. They lived in Montague, MI. until 1954 when they moved to Coopersville. John retired from Shaw-Walker in Muskegon after 23 years. In 1975 John and his sons purchased the Groenink Elevator and Hardware in Nunica. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday April 8, 2013 at the Eastmanville United Reformed Church 6845 Leonard St, Coopersville (Corener of 68th Ave. and Leonard St). The Rev. Arthur Besteman will officiate with burial in Allendale Twp. Cemetery. Visitation Sunday 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 pm at the Throop Funeral Home 214 Church St, Coopersville.
