Johanna Vredevoogd

Johanna (Jo) Vredevoogd, age 95, was ushered through God’s grace into His glorious presence on November 7, 2021.  She was born January 20, 1926 to Bert and Jennie Rozeveld on a small farm in Marion, MI. Growing up during the Great Depression and between two World Wars, she learned to get by with little and the importance of family and faith and work. As long as she was able, Jo was active in the Lamont Christian Reformed church and also supported the Christian day schools. Jo loved being around family and friend – gathering together to play cards, laugh uproariously, talk and enjoy eating home baked pies and cookies.  Her grandchildren will never forget the dozens of cookies grandma made each of them for Christmas. She enjoyed trips to Canada and to most of the 50 states. With a rare sense of humor and zest for life, she had the ability to schmooze with almost any stranger to make new friends. Jo worked as a dietician at Beacon Light Nursing Home in Marne, MI for almost 20 years and enjoyed her co-workers who became life-long friends. After retirement she enjoyed spending winter months in Florida with friends and visiting with children and grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband of 70 years, Clarence (Coke) Vredevoogd, by her son, Brian Vredevoogd, by her brother Evertt Rozeveld and wife Evelyn, her sister Luetta and husband Wayne Nykamp.  She leaves behind children: Rick (Dianne) Vredevoogd of Hudsonville, MI, Jackie (Carl) Adema of Beallsville, MD, Paula (Dan) Triezenberg of DeWitt, MI, Mary (Harold) Veldman of Allendale, MI and daughter-in-law Sue Vredevoogd of Ferrysburg. Jo and Coke also were blessed with 16 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. Surviving brothers and sisters in-law include, Esther Schepers, Jack (Lois) Vredevoogd, Peggy Vredevoogd, Wilfred (Sandy) Vredevoogd, Calvin (Jan) Vredevoogd, Larry (Phyllis) Vredevoogd, Harry (Sandy) Vredevoogd, and Joyce Vredevoogd. Jo’s family wishes to express their deep appreciation to the wonderful staff at Waterford Place and Faith Hospice for the amazing care they gave our Mom. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 11 from 12:30pm - 2:00pm at Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville, MI with a funeral service following at 2:00pm.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sunset Legacy Foundation at www.sunsetcommunities.org/donate. .
