James Karnes

James M. Karnes, age 92 of Grand Rapids, passed away Friday, July 17, 2020. Jim was born in Loraine OH., to the late Willis and Viola (Freestone) Karnes. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was employed as a Supervisor at Textron and Lear Seigler. Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, bowling, fishing, camping at Fish Lake, family trips to Canada and loved traveling to Las Vegas. Jim is survived by his wife, Diana (Moon) Karnes; children, Jim (Nancy) Karnes, Jamie (Steve) Potter, Michael Moon (Pattie) and Michelle Scarbrough; grandchildren, Amy Karnes, Lisa (Luke) Greenland, Dane (Tomoko) Potter, Stacey Potter (Grant McGill), Beau Scarbrough and Leland Scarbrough; great grandchildren, Kyle, Keegan, Olivia, Cole and Owen; siblings, June Otten, Kenneth Karnes and Sharon David Rood; sisters-in-law, Rose Karnes and Millie Moon; brothers-in-law, Richard (Paula) Moon and Daniel (Vicki) Moon; many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Jim was preceded in death by 2 infant brothers, sister and brother-in-law, Shirley and Jerry Phillips, brother, Jerry Karnes, brother and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Jenny Karnes, sister-in-law Carol Karnes. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 P.M. Monday, July 20, 2020 at the Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville. Due to gathering restrictions, there will be a limit on the number of people who may enter the building at a time. A private funeral service for family only will be held 1:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 21, 2020 at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville, MI 49404 with Rev Richard Moon officiating. Interment will be in Rosedale Memorial Park Cemetery, Grand Rapids. The family wishes to thank Doctor’s, HoeDema, Kattnoski, Pimental and especially Dr Karmen as well as the caregivers from Elara Caring who gave such great care to Jim and support to the family.
