Jack DeLaat, age 83, of Grand Rapids, MI., was called home to his Lord and Saviour Sunday, Jan. 24, 2016 with his wife and family at his side. Jack was born in Wyoming, MI. on DeLaat Ave to the late Paul and Nettie (Mulder) DeLaat. Jack was also preceded in death by his stepfather Joe VanHerp, brother and best friend, Paul, sister, Barb and great grandson Jack Alexander. He served over 7 years in the US Navy attended Harbor Jr. College in California where he played center for the football team, worked at Coopersville and Northview Public Schools as Supervisor of Buildings and Grounds and served on the City Council in Coopersville. Jack enjoyed spending time with his family; especially his grandchildren and great grandchildren and loved to attend their many activities and watch them play sports. He enjoyed music and could often be heard singing at Church or at work. His favorite music was Gospel and he attended Faith United Methodist Church in Grand Rapids. Jack was an outdoorsman and loved to go fishing, camping and traveling in the U.P. and volunteered at Seney Wild Life Refuge in the U.P. He also enjoyed reading, gardening and watching MSU Football and Basketball. Jack is survived by his wife, Margaret and together they would have celebrated 60 yrs. of marriage on June 2, 2016. He is also survived by his children, Stephen (Liz) DeLaat, Keith (Kelli) DeLaat, Valerie (Michael) Potter, Janet DeLaat and Joanne (Clint) Maki; 13 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; sister, Dee Klooster; sister-in-law, Nellie DeLaat; brother-in-law, Dick Majewski and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Per Jacké�a�a��s wish cremation has taken place. A Life Celebration Service will be held 3:00 pm Saturday, Feb 6th at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville, MI 49404 with Rev Mark Thompson officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday 1 to 3 pm at the funeral home. The family wishes to extend a thank you to the many doctors, nurses and staff at Butterworth, 4th floor West Bldg. for their help and care.
