Herman Smoes

Herman G. Smoes, age 82, of Coopersville, passed away at his home Tuesday, January 21, 2020 with family at his side. Herm was born in Grand Haven to the late Albert and Pauline (Bennink) Smoes. He was a graduate of Coopersville High School, served in the U.S. Army and owned a dairy farm in Coopersville. Herm loved his wife, children and grandchildren and enjoyed attending events for his children when they were younger as well as his grandchildren. He enjoyed harness racing, attending the Ravenna Auction and enjoyed meeting people. You might enter as a stranger but always left as a friend. In addition to his parents he was was preceded in death by his great grandson Jeffery and brother-in-law Donald Wallinga. Herm is survived by his wife of 56 yrs. Beverly (Wallinga) Smoes; children, Christy (Kevin) Alderink, Barbara (David) Good, Dan (Sarah) Smoes, Brad (Carol) Smoes, Jeff (Becky) Smoes and Bruce (Judy) Smoes; 15 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; brother, Robert (Carolyn) Smoes; sister, Rose Mary (Roland) Hubbert; sisters-in-law, Jan (Carroll) Snyder, Carol (Ron) Riemersma; brother-in-law, Dave (Pauline) Wallinga; many nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Monday at the Coopersville Reformed Church, 423 W. Randall St, Coopersville, with Rev. Rick LeFebre officiating. Burial will be in the Coopersville-Polkton Twp. Cemetery. Visitation will be held 2-4 and 6-8 pm Sunday at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville and Monday 10-11 am one hour prior to the service at church.
