Helen Virginia Maurer, age 95yrs, of Grand Rapids formerly of Iorns, MI. and Austin TX., was called by Our Lord, Wednesday, Oct 2, 2013. She was born in Wyandotte, MI, Oct 6, 1917 and was the youngest of 4 children of John and Katherine (Bittorf) Seewald. Helen graduated as Valedictorian of the class of 1935 at St Patrické�a�a��s Catholic High School in Wyandotte. She graduated with an RN degree from St Joseph Hospital Nursing School in Fort Wayne, IN. She joined the Army as an RN and served our country for several years during WWII. Upon her discharge she met and married Walter Maurer Sr. They moved to Austin, TX where they raised 6 children. Helen worked as an RN at Seton Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, and St Edwards University Infirmary. The family returned to Michigan in 1968 where Helen worked for 20 years at St Maryé�a�a��s Hospital. She and her husband of 42 years retired and enjoyed life in Grand Rapids and Irons, MI in the Summertime and as winter Texans in the winter. Helen is preceded in death by her parents, siblings, her husband, son Walter Jr at the age of 60, and 3 granddaughters. She is survived by her children, Patricia (Richard) Will of Georgetown, TX., John Maurer of Pflugerville, TX., James Maurer of Henderson, NV., Mary (Jon) Kurylowicz of Pflugerville, TX., William (Barbara) Maurer of Bitely, MI.; 25 grandchildren and 30 plus great grandchildren.
