Gene Marvin Kamps, age 81, of Coopersville, was called home to his Lord and Savior on Monday, June 23, 2014. Gene was born in Wayland and a lifelong resident of Coopersville. He was a member of the Coopersville Christian Reformed Church where he served as a cadet leader, deacon and elder. Gene was the owner of Modern Office Interiors and retired in 1998. As a young man he served in the U.S Army during the Korean War. Gene was a hard working, generous man and enjoyed sharing his gift of building through mission trips to Puerto Rico and Romania. Gene is proceeded in death by his parents Louis and Gertrude Kamps and brothers Abel, Edwin, and Willis. He will be deeply missed by his wife Flora of 53 years; children, Kurt (Kathy) Kamps, Roy (Kristi) Kamps, Norman (Stephanie) Kamps, Marcia Kamps. He experienced the joy of seven grandchildren, Haley, Maddie, Emily, Noah, Haven, Ashton, and Savannah; siblings Clarence (Rena) Kamps, Gradus (Shirley) Kamps, Gertrude (Edward) VanderKolk. Sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Beatrice Slikkers, Isla (Floyd) DeBoer, Gerald (Bea) Visser and Ken Visser, Kaye(Joe) Vermeulen ;many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Friday June 27 at 11:00 a.m at Coopersville Christian Reformed Church 200 Henry St. With Pastor Steve Bussis officiating . Friends and relatives may meet the family Thursday June 26, 2014 from 2-4 and 6-9 pm. at the Throop Funeral 214 Church St, Coopersville .
