Gary Barrett

Gary G. Barrett, age 75, of Newaygo, MI., began eternal life with his Lord and Savior on March 15, 2017. Gary was born in Coopersville, MI to the late Bert and Verona Ruth (VanRaalte) Barrett. He was retired from GM and Electronic Data Systems in Warren, MI. where he worked as a computer programmer. After his retirement Gary took over ownership of Kastle Inn Resort from his father-in-law Len Kastelin on Pickerel Lake in Newaygo and enjoyed running the resort for 18 years. Gary had a deep faith in God and was very involved in his churches in Warren, MI. and in his retirement years in Fremont, MI. He was very family oriented and was always travelling back home to Coopersville from Warren to see his family and friends. He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and being involved in academic and sports activities with them at school. Gary was one of those people that could fix anything, was a private pilot, enjoyed flying, cars, was an avid outdoorsmen, took road trips just to see what was around the next corner and had travelled to 6 of the 7 continents. Gary is survived by his wife of 53 years, Marilyn; children, Marcy (Ryan) Pfahler, Christopher (Julie) Barrett and Curtis (Yolonda) Barrett; grandchildren, Brett, Chadd and Madison Pfahler; Isabel and George Barrett; Cameron and Avery Barrett; sister, Gail Holmes; brother, Greg (Anne) Barrett; sisters-in-law Judy (Tom) Ruster and Barb (Rick) Boss; brother-in-law Jim (Deb) Kastelin and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents Gary was preceded in death by his father-in-law and mother-in-law Leonard and Marge Kastelin and brother-in-law Lawrence Kastelin. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM Monday at Church of the Living Christ, 605 Hemlock St, Fremont, MI. with Rev. Dr. Tom Jasperse and Rev. Barbara Boss officiating. Visitation will be Sunday afternoon 4 to 7 pm at the church in Fremont. Memorial donations may be made to Fountain View of Grant, 50 S.
