Full obituary to follow, this page will be updated when it is availableEarl William Meerman, 88, of Coopersville passed away peacefully on May 6, 2024 at Fountain View Assisted Living. Earl was born on March 18, 1936 to Peter and Ethel Meerman. He graduated from Coopersville High School in 1954, and it was there that he met his high school sweetheart and love of his life, Mary Ann (Farrell). They married in 1958 at St Mary’s Catholic Church in Marne, Michigan and together, they had seven children and lived in Elizabethtown, Kentucky briefly before returning to Coopersville, Michigan. Earl enlisted into the Army in 1957 prior to operating the family owned Sunoco gas station. In the 1970’s, he continued his career working at Empire State Line/G&M Coaches charter bus company until he retired in 1998. He was hard working and dedicated and instilled these traits into each one of his children. Earl loved his family most and was incredibly proud of each of his kids and grandkids. He loved hearing about their games, events, trips and work activities and especially loved telling his favorite charter bus adventure stories. Earl loved sports, particularly watching his kids and grandkids play. He also loved dogs, listening to his music and humming. He spent his free time umpiring or refereeing, snow plowing, travelling, camping, doing his crossword puzzles and playing cards. Earl was proceeded in death by his parents, daughter Janet, son Jim, sister Dorothy and brother Jim. Earl is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Mary Ann; his children Joe (Julie) Meerman, Diane Meerman, Jon (Sharon) Meerman, Julia (Ben) Christie, Jill Meerman, and Jayne (Kevin) Schoenborn; 29 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Margaret Bear; sister-in-law Jeri Farrell; several nieces and nephews; and many cousins. The family will receive visitors on Monday, May 13, 2024 between 4 and 7 pm at Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville, Michigan with a rosary being prayed at 7pm. Earl’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 14, 2024 at St Mary’s Catholic Church, at 15164 Juniper Drive in Marne, Michigan 49435, at 11 am, and a luncheon will immediately follow at the church. Interment at the parish cemetery will take place immediately following the luncheon. In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Lori’s Voice at: PO Box 66, Coopersville, MI 49404.
