Sheridan Dr. Harold "Red" Sheridan, DVM, aged 81, of Allendale formerly of Coopersville, heard the voice of his Lord welcome him home on March 29, 2010. Born in Allendale, MI, on August 19, 1928, he was preceded in death by his wife Vera (DeYoung) Sheridan on April 27, 2001, and his brother Darrell on July 5, 2008. He is survived by his wife Mary Ellen (Syswerda); his sons Kurt (Debra) Sheridan of Armada, MI, and Todd (Anne) Sheridan of Fortville, IN, and daughter Jill (Michael) Fanning of Bogart, GA; his grandchildren Lindsay and Ian Fanning, Sarah and Keith Sheridan, and Grace Sheridan; his brother Alton (Vivian) Sheridan of Grand Rapids, MI, and sisters Lois (Malcolm) Ellis of South Carolina and Sharon (Rex) Conely of Grand Rapids, MI, and sister-in-law Shirley Sheridan of Nunica, MI, as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. Harold cared for large and small animals for 54 years as a veterinarian at West Michigan Veterinary Service in Coopersville, MI. He graduated MSU School of Veterinary Medicine in 1953 and was awarded Distinguished Veterinary Alumnus Award in 1990. Active in many civic and religious organizations, Dr. Sheridan was past president of the Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, Western Michigan Veterinary Medical Association, Michigan Association of the Professions and the Lions Club, where he was an active member for 54 years. He was a board member at Indiana Wesleyan University of Marion, IN, and he served on the Polkton Charter Township Planning Commission for 14 years and the Fire Board for 17 years. He recently donated 55 acres to establish Sheridan Park for the benefit of Coopersville and surrounding residents. An active member of Allendale Wesleyan (Life Stream) Church his entire life, he served as church treasurer there for over 30 years. A service celebrating his life and home-going will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 3, at Church of the Savior (180 N.68th Ave., Coopersville, MI). Members of Haroldé�a�a��s family will greet friends and relatives from 4-7 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, and from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. on Friday, April 2, at Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville (214 Church St., Coopersville, MI). In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Allendale Wesleyan (Life Stream) Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 93, Allendale, MI 49401.
