Doris Jean Murray, age 93, of Grant, MI, was called home to her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Monday morning, December 30, 2019, from her home. Doris was born in Hart, MI., to the late Ross and Anna (Fritz) Throop. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Ronald Murray; children, Luanne (Dennis) Nelson, Daniel (Nancy) Murray and Sara (David) Martin; 12 grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ellen Tibbe, and many nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her son, Steven Murray; brothers and sisters-in-law, Norris and Lorna Throop, Harlind and Ann Throop, Elmer and Ruth Throop, Alfred and Gertrude Throop.
A very caring and compassionate lady, Doris always put others ahead of herself. She frequently made birthday cakes and mended jeans for the young people who worked at Murray Lumber with her. After retirement (when she was in her 80s!), Doris began her own private blanket ministry by making hundreds and hundreds of fleece blankets. When asked for gift suggestions, she always responded, "I can always use more fleece,” with never a request for herself. Completed blankets were donated to Health Department #10 to be distributed to area children by their nurses. Her goal was that every child in Newaygo County would have one of her blankets. Even at age 93, she continued to work on that goal.
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 3, 2020 at Northland Church of Christ, 9891 Mason Dr. Grant, MI 49327, with Christopher Rollston, Professor at George Washington University, and Mike Armentrout, Minister of Northland Church of Christ, officiating.
