Dirk John Kleyn

Dirk John Kleyn, age 93, of Coopersville, passed away Thursday, September 7, 2023. He was born in Muskegon, MI to the late Tunis and Klazena (Ekkel) Kleyn. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Gladys Kleyn, infant daughter Julie and twin infant sons. John served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a hard working dairy farmer and loved watching his crops grow and worrying about the weeds. In his spare time, he enjoyed pulling his John Deere tractors. In the fall it was all about the big buck and if he would get it this year. John served as the Berlin Fair Board president, a 4-H leader and enjoyed selling Dekalb seed. His greatest joy was his family. John will be deeply missed by his children; Susan (Phillip) Fritz, Pamela (Kevin) Keegstra, John Kleyn Jr., Mary (John) Willcome; grandchildren, Lauren Fritz, Derek (Jessica) Fritz, Sara (Vlad) Hernandez, Josh (Sara) Keegstra, Mikaleigh Kleyn, Kortney Klein, Jake Willcome, Karla Willcome and Colin DeYoung; great-great grandsons, Ezra Hernandez, Andrew Hernandez, Cooper Fritz; sisters, Lucy Folkema, Francis (Bill) Coonrod; sister-in-law, Marlene (Ken) Busman and several nieces and nephews. A funeral service will be held 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, September 13, 2023 at the Coopersville Reformed Church, 423 W. Randall St. Coopersville, MI 49404 with Rev. John Hines Officiating. Burial will take place in the Coopersville-Polkton Twp. cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday, September 12, 2023 from 2:00 to 4:00 P.M. and 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Coopersville Reformed Church Activity Center.
