In Loving Memory of Dave Gates

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of David V. Gates, a beloved husband, father, brother, and grandfather. He peacefully went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 29, 2023, at the age of 79. Dave is survived by his wife, Joanne, and his children: Amy (Kurt) Karel, Lori (Chris) Zeppenfield, and Julie (David) Neuhaus. Also Joanne's children: Sharon (Joseph) Mattias, and Robert Harrington. Dave's legacy lives on through his grandchildren: Trevor (Kaley) Karel, Tayler (Brad) Millis, Jessica (Doug) Gausepohl, Jennifer (Gavin) Andrew, Garrett (Cici) Mattias, Frankie, Jillian, and Giada Garzelloni, Levi and Simon Neuhaus, as well as his great-grandchildren: Jackson, Calvin, Everett, Davison, River, and Huck. In addition, he is also survived by two brothers, Jim (Carol) Gates, and Robert (Joyce) Gates, and two sisters, Virginia (Michael) Huffman, and Susan (Lee) Davis, as well as many nieces and nephews. Dave was previously employed as a pattern maker for Magna International, before his retirement. He had a great passion for the outdoors and enjoyed gardening, hunting, and fishing, particularly his annual trips to Canada for fishing. Dave was known for his storytelling skills, and he often made it more interesting with some added details. Spending time with family was one of his favorite things to do. He was a fan of various music genres, including Bob Seger, Chicago, Jim Croce, and Kansas. Dave enjoyed playing games, such as Cribbage and Euchre, and he took pleasure in seeing his opponents lose. Dave’s courage in the face of adversity was a testament to his character. While we grieve the loss of Dave's presence, we don’t grieve as those without hope. We know that Dave's faith has been rewarded, and he has found eternal peace and joy in the presence of his Heavenly Father. In keeping with David’s wish cremation has taken place. The family will receive visitors 4 to 7 P.M. Friday Sep 8, 2023 at Lighthouse Community Church, 7624 Lake Michigan Dr, Allendale, MI 49404. A Life Celebration Service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday Sep. 9, 2023 at Lighthouse Community Church in Allendale.
