Cora Jean (Kramer) Peterson, 90, passed away Sunday, January 28, 2018 in Naples, FL after a long, happy life filled with love and laughter. Born in Coopersville to Andrew Henry and Ida (Post) Kramer, “Corky” graduated from Coopersville High School in 1946. Her childhood dream of becoming a nurse was happily derailed when she fell in love with Donald Peterson, to whom she was married for nearly 70 years. A feisty blend of Magellan, MacGyver and Martha Stewart, Cora was the personification of “figuring it out”. For the majority of her career, she served as Chief Logistics Officer of the Peterson Household, focused primarily on maintaining order and sanity in the family’s home near Lamont, their summer place at Sand Lake, and their winter residence in Naples, FL. She also held positions at MSU’s West Shaw Hall, WJIM-TV in Lansing, and Lillie’s Department Store before becoming the owner and proprietor of “Ye Olde Post Office,” an antique and craft shop in downtown Coopersville. They retired in 1994, and spent the rest of their lives together soaking up sunshine and cheering on their beloved Spartans. Above all, Cora cherished her role as wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She would tell you that she was an adventurer in search of treasure, when in reality, she was the treasure, always in search of an adventure. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Donald; son, Jeffrey; and her sister, Lena Mae Kramer. She is survived by her children Steve Peterson (Dave Hoogterp) of Naples, FL, Lynda (Harry) King of Sanibel, FL, and Cindy Peterson of Bloomfield Hills, MI; grandchildren, Christopher Peterson, Elizabeth Peterson, Zachary (Amy) Peterson, Alexandra King, Christopher King, and Dallas Nicholls; great-grandchildren Nevaeh, Sawyer, Owen and Wyatt; and countless beloved friends and extended family. Visitation will be held Thursday, February 1, 2018 from 4-7:00 pm at Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St., Coopersville, MI. Services will be held Friday, February 2, 2018 at 10:00 am at Grace Lutheran Church, 300 Cleveland St. East, Coopersville, MI. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests you honor her memory by a donating a pint of blood like so many others who helped sustain her over the years. Memorial donations may be made to the Don & Cora Peterson Football Scholarship Endowment (AA0672) at Michigan State University, 535 Chestnut Rd, Room 200, East Lansing, MI 48824-4005 – spartanfund.net An online guestbook may be signed at www.throopfh.com
