Col. Edward W. Randell, Sr. passed away Saturday, November 20, 2010 at his home in Seal Beach, California. Edward served in the U.S. Army Air Corps and the U. S. Air Force as a pilot, civil engineer, missile officer and Civil Air Patrol liaison officer. During WWII he flew in the Air Transport Command delivering new planes from factories to air bases around the world. He flew over the highest mountains in the world, the Himalayas, for a year delivering supplies from India to China. He retired after thirty-four years of service with the rank of Colonel. He was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation, the Air Medal, the Distinguished Flying Cross and Chinese pilot wings from the National Chinese Government. Col. Randell is survived by his wife of sixty-seven years, the former Marjorie Irish, his four sons, Edward William Randell, Jr. (Mardi) of Redondo Beach, CA, David Howard Randell (Jamie) of Cypress, CA, Curtis Wiley Randell (Annette) of Taos, N.M., Thomas Hazen Randell (Lorianne)of Irvine,CA.,and by eight grandchildren, Jonathan Randell, Althea DeBeer, Jesse Randell, Nathan, Adam and Ted Randell, Heather and Brooke Randell and one great grandson, Simon Edward DeBeer, all of California.
