Charles Louis Sommers Jr.

Charles Louis Sommers Jr. age 80, of Coopersville, passed away Monday, October 23, 2023. He was born in Port Hope, MI to the late Charles and Grace (Pleiness) Sommers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wives, Alma (Frayer) Sommers and Patricia (Rhoades) Sommers; siblings, Joyce Thoms, Leona Klein, Beverly Zick, Ginny Johnson, Calvin “Butch” Sommers and Ira Sommers. Charles enjoyed spending time with family and friends, playing cards, hunting and fishing. He will be deeply missed by his children, Dawn (Scott) Feringa, Duane (Shanna) Sommers and Kim Kauffman and friend Bob Ball; step children, Cindy (Craig) Bleckley, Bob Sikkema and Julie Maxwell, Brian (Denise) Sikkema; daughter-in-law, Renee Sikkema; 12 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Mable Sommers, Nancy Sommers; Brother-in-law, Earl Iseler and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to give a special thanks to Faith Hospice for the care given to Charles at Fountain View Assisted Living of Coopersville. In Keeping with his wish cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 27, 2023 at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St. Coopersville, MI 49404, with Pastor Todd Schmidt officiating. Burial will take place in Rock Falls Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, October 26, 2023 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Throop Funeral Home and Friday, October 27, 2023 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. The family asks attendees to refrain from using perfumes. Memorial donations may be made to Faith Hospice, 2100 Raybrook St. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
