Charles John Clayton (Chuck), age 74 made his long awaited journey across the river to the arms of his Lord and Savior during the early morning hours of April 25, 2019, with his loving and devoted wife Cyndi at his side. Chuck was born June 28, 1944 in Grand Rapids Michigan to the late Maury and Ruth (Longnecker) Clayton. He was a graduate of Coopersville High School holding several class positions, achievement awards and recognized basketball player, he later served as a Trustee on the Coopersville Board of Education. Chuck was a proud graduate of MSU, who upon graduation joined his father in partnership of Clayton Farms in Marne. He had a deep love for the farm, monitoring the seasonal progress and using his hands for building various pieces of needed equipment. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing in the area; as well as at his cabin in the UP. Chuck was a life-long member of Marne United Methodist Church serving many roles including Sunday School teacher. He was a generous supporter of many local programs and especially enjoyed being an anonymous bidder for the 4-H Livestock Auction during the Berlin Fair.
Chuck will be forever and deeply missed by his wife Cyndi; children, Trev (Nicole) Clayton and Michelle (Lindeman) Griffin (Kyle); grandchildren, Kirstin (Jon) Siegel, Ryan Clayton and baby Killian Griffin; sister-in-law, Kristy (Chris) Shiphorst; brother-in-laws, Matthew (Dawn) Ambrose, Mark (Beth) Ambrose and Aaron Ambrose, nieces Celeste (Fabian) Schoenborn, Myra (Ron) Kerner, Marla Eubank and several great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Chuck was preceded in death by his sister Ellen (Clayton) Eubank, brother-in-law Curtiss Eubank and several Aunts and Uncles.
Visitation will be held at Throop Funeral Home from 2-5 pm on Sunday April 28, 2019, with funeral services at Marne United Methodist Church (MUMC) on Monday, April 29, 2019 at 11am, visitation one hour prior; Rev. Tommy Boutell officiating. Final interment will take place at Rosedale Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Coopersville Community Foundation Chuck Clayton Fund, American Diabetes Association or Faith Hospice.
