Carolyn Vanderlaan

Carolyn VanderLaan, age 82, of Coopersville, was called home to her Lord Monday, February 13, 2017. Carolyn was born in Muskegon, MI. to the late Helmer and Eva (Wilbern) Nordwall. Carolyn taught school for 28 years, she began teaching 4th grade at Marne in 1954 and moved to Coopersville in 1958 and taught 2nd grade until her retirement. She was a member of the Coopersville Fire Bells, and active member of the Coopersville United Methodist Church. Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, playing cards and board games, and painting in both oil and water colors. She was preceded in death by her husband Gerald, July 11, 2011, sisters-in-laws, Evelyn (Joe) Benkert, Lila (John) Huisken and Harriet (Art) Miller, brothers-in-law, Charles VanderLaan, Harry (Maggie) VanderLaan, Frank (Audrey) VanderLaan and Robert Hall. Carolyn is survived by her children, Valerie VanderLaan, Diane VanderLaan and Paul VanderLaan; grandchildren, Rio, Riley and Jessica; brother Helmer (Hope) Nordwall; sisters, Betty Hall and Sharon (Herb) Reister; brother-in-law, Carl (Kay) VanderLaan; sister-in-law, Elizabeth VanderLaan and several nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Friday 1:00 p.m. at the Coopersville United Methodist Church, 105 68th Ave, N. Coopersville, MI 49404 with Rev Cori Cypret officiating. Burial will take place at the Coopersville-Polkton Twp. Cemetery. Visitation will be held Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville and Friday one hour prior to the service at church.
