Brian Slade

Slade, Mr Brian N. Slade, 59, of Coopersville passed away unexpectedly Sunday July 1, 2012. Brian was born Dec 25, 1952 in Woodstock Ontario Canada to William and Monica (Enid) Slade. At the age of 12, Brian moved with his parents to the Spring Lake, Coopersville area. He worked 17 years for Baker Engineered Racing Engines and in 1989 Brian founded and began his own company, Dura-Tech Racing Engines. The hard work and devotion Brian had for his engines led him to 6 Engine Builder of the Year Awards. Dura-Tech Racing Engines are raced at Berlin Raceway and throughout the US and Canada. Brian was well known as the "On Call Physician of the Races" as he was seen with his timing light going from car to car, offering help to who ever was in need. He developed many lifelong friendships throughout the racing community. Brian is survived by his wife of 16 yrs Annie; children Keith (Kelly) Slade, Lee Gould, Jody (Billy) Szotko, Amber Gould, Josh Slade; Brian admired his 8 grandchildren and enjoyed watching each of them grow. He loved being a father figure and mentor to two special people, Kerstin and Jen. Brian is also survived by many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews as well as family members and friends. Funeral Services will be held Tuesday July 10, 2012 at Remembrance Church, 4575 Remembrance Rd. NW, Grand Rapids, MI. 49534. Visitation will be Sunday 6 to 9 and Monday 2 to 4 and 6 to 9 pm at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville.
