Betty Hodson

Betty L. Hodson, age 85, of Allendale, was called home to heaven Thursday, December 18, 2014. She was born in Hudsonville, MI. to Frederick é�a�A"Tedé�a�� and Julia (Blakeney) Kennedy who preceded her in death and was also preceded in death by her sister Jean Canter. She attended and graduated from Coopersville High School where she had the honor of being crowned Queen at the first football game played under the lights at the new athletic field in 1947. Betty graduated with a teaching degree from the University of Michigan and taught at Turner Elementary School in Grand Rapids. She took time out from teaching to raise her children, returning to teaching as a substitute teacher when they grew older and taught in Allendale, Conklin and many local area schools. She was active at First Reformed Church in Allendale for many years where she taught Sunday School and attended womené�a�a��s guild. As health issues and age made things more difficult she found a new way to be active in the church as a prayer warrior and lifted prayers of support up for many in the church and community. Betty enjoyed spending time with family and friends, sewing, crocheting, doing crafts, traveling with family and wintering in the Ruskin, FL. She is survived by her husband of 60 years, William é�a�A"Billé�a�� Hodson; children, Doug (Joanie) Hodson, Diane (Jon) Beltman and Linda Hodson; 3 grandchildren, John Hodson and fiance, Bekki Sexton, Tim (Katie) Beltman and Megan Beltman; sister-in-law, Ena Palmatier; brothers-in-law, John (Betty) Hodson, Gerald Walt and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Services will be held Monday 11:00 am at Spring Valley Church, Allendale, MI., with Rev. Rob Wondergem officiating. Burial will be in the Allendale Twp. Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday 2 to 5 pm at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville.
