Bessie “Betsy” Irene Schoenborn, age 98, of Conklin, passed away peacefully Friday, April 3, 2020. She was born on March 5, 1922 to Millard and Geraldine Crowell in Newberry, Michigan. On November 20, 1943 she married Walter Schoenborn in Conklin.
Betsy was an active member of her community, volunteering her time at St. Joseph's Church, Wright, and as a 4-H leader for many years. After having 7 children, she worked as a nurses aide, and later as a licensed practical nurse at the Beacon Light Nursing Home in Marne for a total of 30 years. In 1975 she became a lifetime member of the Sophie deMarsac Campau Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, serving as a regent from 1984 -1986. Betsy was also a member of the Ladies Literary Guild in Grand Rapids. She enjoyed reading, playing the piano/organ, following the Detroit Tigers and playing cards, especially Cribbage and Euchre. She also enjoyed traveling vacations with her family, and later, with her husband in retirement. She was very proud of her family.
Betsy is survived by her children, Margaret Mary Pallett of Muskegon, Raymond (LaWanna) Schoenborn of Ithaca, Michigan, Barbara (John) Sepura of Ferrysburg, Jane (Roy) Sabo of Grandville, Charles (Cheryl) Schoenborn of Conklin, Dorothy (Dan) Nelson of Conklin, Elizabeth (Bill) Moes of Douro-Dummer, Ontario, Canada, 26 grandchildren, 55 great grandchildren, sister-in-law, Bertha Schoenborn, many nieces and nephews and long time friend, Edna Schumaker. She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Walter, her brothers and sisters and son-in-law Dennis Pallett. There will be a private burial service at St. Joseph’s Cemetery, Wright, with Father David Gross presiding.
Her family would like to thank the staff at American House Assisted Living Center in Spring Lake for the excellent care they gave her while she made her home there for over 3 years.
A memorial Mass and life celebration will be scheduled for a later date.
