Avery Adelbert Austin, age 96, of Coopersville passed away Saturday, June 15, 2024 at his home with family at his side. He was born in Coopersville, MI to the late Sabin and Beth (Barrett) Austin. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his son, Michael Avery Austin; grandsons, Joshua Avery Austin and Jared Avery Ross; brother and sister-in-law, Arnold and Lee Austin and sister Joyce Casler.
Avery is the third generation of Austin’s to be born in the house on Cleveland St. where he has lived his entire life. He served in the U.S. Army during WW II, farmed at the family farm on Cleveland St and worked at American Seating for 42 years until his retirement at the age of 62. He continued to be active after his retirement, spending time with his family and grandchildren, wintering in Davenport Florida which allowed him to enjoy his love for golf year around and caring and mowing his large lawn. Avery was always putting others before himself especially his wife Verniece or “MaMa” as he called her and he would make his children promise that if anything were to happen to him that they would take care of “MaMa” his soulmate and wife of 74 years. Aver loved coaching little league and pony league baseball for many years.
Avery will be deeply missed by his wife of 74 years Verniece (Sincler) Austin; children, Cyndi (Mike) Caruso, Janet (Ray) Ladagast, Debbie (Bruce) Ross, Marybeth (Mike) Tiffany, Russ Austin and Jeff (Penny) Austin; 24 grandchildren; 46 great grandchildren; 14 great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Avery’s wish cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 13, 2024 at Foundations Church, 3327 Mortimer St, Ravenna, MI 49451 with Rev. Steven VanderWoude officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday, July 13, 2024 from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. at the church in Ravenna. Interment will be in the Coopersville-Polkton Twp. Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the City of Coopersville C/O Coopersville Rec. Little League Baseball, 289 Danforth St, Coopersville, MI 49404.
