Arthur Modderman

Arthur H. Modderman, age 84, of Coopersville, passed away Thursday, March 2, 2023. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry A. and Margaret (Dyksterhouse) Modderman, his sisters Mary Ellen Modderman and Janet (Kenneth) VanTimmeren and his soulmate Joni Anderson. Art will be deeply missed by his daughter Gail Shaw; grandchildren, Keira Shaw and Damian Shaw; siblings, Ruth (John) Fridsma, Paul (Kay) Modderman, Carol Porter; close friend Joyce Higgins and many nieces and nephews. Art was born in Tallmadge Twp. MI was a graduate of Coopersville High School and serviced in the U.S. Army. Art worked as an arborist and owned Grand Rapids Tree Company for 21 years.  He was a keen gardener for over 50 years and enjoyed growing organic vegetables and flowers, which he sold at local Farmers market. Winters were spent ice fishing. He enjoyed his trips to Alaska and out west hunting and fishing. He kept fit, ran 5K races into his 70s and played softball until he was 80. He loved to read and learn about health, nutrition, gardening and spirituality. In keeping with his wish cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 2-4 P.M Tuesday, March 14, 2023 with the Memorial Service at 4:00 P.M. celebrating Art’s life at the Throop Funeral Home in Coopersville.
