Angelo Vassallo

Angelo é�a�A"Coaché�a�� Vassallo, age 92, of Coopersville, passed away peacefully at Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in Lansing on June 11, 2013. Born May 30, 1921, in Brooklyn, NY, Angelo received his bacheloré�a�a��s and masteré�a�a��s degrees in W. Virginia and taught 6 years in Maryland, W. Virginia, and Kingsley, MI, before moving to Coopersville in 1949 to teach at the high school and coach varsity basketball. He retired after teaching 32 years at Coopersville, and on June 5, 2013, celebrated 32 years of retirement. Angelo was preceded in death by his wife, Gwendolyn, on April 1, 1988, and by his parents and 5 brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Lorraine (Kim) Finison; son, Vance; sister, Antoinette Quailey; step-grandchildren Kristopher Finison, Lindsay Finison, and Andrea Palomba; and special friend and helper, Julie Gordon. Gifted with a wonderful tenor voice, Angelo was always involved in singing, both as a soloist and in groups such as barbershop quartets and choruses in Grand Rapids and Sarasota, FL. Later in life he sang for many years with the Old Kids (O.K.) Choir in Coopersville. He will be remembered for his meticulous care of his house, yard, and cars. A celebration of Angeloé�a�a��s life will be held at Coopersville Reformed Church, 423 W. Randall St., Coopersville, on Sunday, June 23, at 4 pm, with Rev. Arnold Van Beek officiating. Visitation with the family will be from 3 to 4 pm. In honor of Angeloé�a�a��s commitment to his adopted hometown and his support of Coopersville and especially all things athletic, please wear your green and white to the memorial service.
