Alice Smith

Alice Ann Smith, age 76, of Coopersville, formerly of Cedar Springs and Caledonia, passed away Tuesday, July 22, 2019. She was born in Perry, MI. and was preceded in death by her father Carl Anderson, mother and stepfather Helen and John Brockway, step son Timothy Smith and brother Ron Anderson. Alice graduated with a degree in education from Michigan State University and began her teaching career at Ovid-Elsie schools. She took time away from teaching to raise her children and then returned to teaching later in life obtaining her Master’s Degree from Calvin College and taught special education at Grand Rapids Public Schools retiring in 2009. Alice considered her greatest accomplishments were being a mother, grandmother and teacher. She enjoyed gardening, reading, and doing arts and craft work. Alice leaves behind her husband of 23 years, Charles Smith Sr.; children, Carl (Amy) Brown, Chuck (Deanna) Brown and Hillary (Bryan) Kraak; step son, Charles “JR” Smith Jr; grandchildren, Jennifer  Schon, Nathan Brown and Cassie Brown; great grandson, Nolan Schon. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held 5-7 PM Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019 at the Throop Funeral Home, 214 Church St, Coopersville with a Memorial Service at 7:00 PM Tuesday evening following the visitation.  An online guestbook may be signed at www.throopfh.com
