Alex James Wooning

Alex Wooning, age 28 of Grand Rapids MI, unexpectedly departed from his earthly home on August 7th, 2023 and is now at peace from his struggles with epilepsy. The son of Lex Wooning (Sandy) and the late Linda Wynsma-Karnes (Rich); brother of Jamie Wooning and Lisa Wahl (Nick); and uncle, nephew, cousin, and friend to many others.  He will be deeply missed by his family and friends who knew and loved him. 

Alex was genuine, kind-hearted, resilient, creative, athletic, and fun-loving. He enjoyed running, basketball, pickleball, writing and making music, spending time in nature, animals, and being around his beloved friends and family. Alex always saw the good in everybody and had a certain glow about him; he was pure light and being around him only made you feel lighter. He was a graduate of Coopersville High School and held a Bachelor’s degree in Advertising and Marketing from Ferris State University. 

Alex’s music was a window into his soul. He believed in living each day to its fullest potential and in making time for the people and endeavors that mattered most. Alex’s message to us left grieving would be found in the words of his song Blank Page: “A blank page, a fresh start, have some fun, be a part, make some art, make sure to find yourself, and who and what makes you happy”

A gathering to celebrate Alex’s life will be held on Friday, August 25th at 6:00pm, in the activity center building of Ottawa Center Chapel (8991 Leonard St. Coopersville, MI) where a meal will be shared together. If you would like to share a memory of Alex during the gathering, please contact Jamie Wooning or Lisa Wahl to arrange that. Prior to the gathering, anyone interested is invited to go for a walk on Alex’s favorite nature trail (meet at 4:45pm at 9080 Oriole Drive Coopersvile, MI). In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to an organization focusing on epilepsy research.
